Cristian Varela stands as one of Spain’s most influential techno pioneers, renowned for shaping the genre over a career spanning more than 25 years. Rising to fame with electrifying four-turntable vinyl sets, his artistry extends far beyond the decks, as a composer for film, theatre, and television, including recording a symphonic album at London’s iconic Abbey Road Studios.
In 2018, he revisited his roots with the relaunch of Black Codes Experiments, showcasing vinyl-only releases from techno legends like Regis, Mark Broom, and Exium. A prolific producer, Cristian has delivered countless solo EPs on renowned labels such as Carl Cox’s Intec and his own Pornographic Recordings.
His contributions to techno, from groundbreaking remixes of Ben Sims and Speedy J to guest lectures at Spain’s top music schools, have earned him over 40 awards, including “Best Worldwide Techno DJ” in 2007 and 2013. Cristian also reaches fans worldwide through his syndicated radio show, broadcast in over 50 countries.
